Money Sucks Right Now

We're all feeling the pressure and the stress
That we never took the time to consider
When we had nothing to do
But assume there was something bigger
Just ahead, but for then,
We were content to celebrate the present
The future was darker than we expected
We'll head down to the bar on the corner
And make bigger plans for down the line
We'll settle in like we never separated
And forget we fucking hate the world outside
We fucking hate the world outside
We fucking hate the world outside
We fucking hate the world outside
We're all feeling the pressure and the stress
That always hung above our heads
But now it surrounds us
And we only see in shades of red
But just ahead, there's an end
To the anxiety and discontent
If we can start digging ourselves out of debt
We'll close our tab and get up and head out
Into the street that leads to where we'll find
That nothing inside has changed
Except now we fucking hate the world outside
We fucking hate the world outside
We fucking hate the world outside
We fucking hate the world outside
We fucking hate the world outside

Stacking Bills

I feel like a million bucks
All used up by greedy fucks
And still never enough
Well I've itemized my life
And it don't add up
But it's all going according to plan
'Cause I don't know what I'm doing
I don't like who I am
And I am saddled with debt on a dead horse
I am settling into cement
And I'm asleep at the wheel
With the car running in the garage
Dreaming of breathing a sigh of relief
After a life spent huffing exhaust
I feel like a brand new man
Empty head and idle hands
And no clue where I am
I'm just carrying out orders
That I don't understand
But it's all starting to make sense
You get a new lease on life because you'll never own it
You just keep getting used 'til you're useless
And you're paying them for the privilege
So now I'm awake on my back
In a box as my body goes cold
Trying to finally get some sleep
After a life spent digging the hole
I'm not asking where the time went
I watched it circle the drain
Just don't ask me how it was spent
'Cause it was taken from me
You tread water
Until the hand that feeds holds you under
You tread water
Until the hand of God holds you under

One hundred years of history but still they spend each day
Defacing all the buildings and tearing up the old walkways
Aspirations for better things while the present is slipping through our hands
The future seems so bright now, but no one understands
How we'll look back on all of this one day with a smile and sad eyes
The rest of the world keeps moving, the best times of our lives pass by
I've never been happy with where I am
I always miss the places I've been
When they're gone
We dream of London flats and New York City taxi cabs
And careen through the saddest nights and pretend
We're up on the latest fashion trends
They say nothing stays the same, but nothing ever changes around here
We'll dig out from underneath these books where we're hiding away in fear
I've never been happy with where I am
I always miss the places I've been
When they're gone
We'll look back on all of this one day with a smile and sad eyes
The everydayness of these days may be the best times in disguise
I've never been happy with where I am
I always miss the places I've been
When they're gone

Deathwishers

There's a point in the night when it all seems pointless
You hate your friends and you miss your bed
And you find yourself faced with two choices:
Stumble home or drink through it
Well surprise, here I am again
Existential dread at 3 a.m.
But I'll die before I let the demons win
So you can just keep pouring 'cause I won't say when
And tonight could be the night
That we ruin the rest of our lives
And I know that thought should scare me
But I can't imagine why
Deathwishers -- We're all trying to take the edge off
Deathwishers -- But we're just making the blade dull
Deathwishers -- And we're just letting the blade fall
And dragging it back and forth all night 'til we draw blood
And every conversation has devolved
Into eyes glazed, waiting 'til it's our turn to talk
And not a single one of us has an original thought
We're just regurgitating lines of movie dialogue
But I've got bad ideas and worse-laid plans
And I'm hellbent on going through with them
And you look like you could use a friend
Well I could use you too to malicious ends
And tonight will be the night
That we ruin the rest of our lives
And you told me that you trust me
But I can't imagine why
Deathwishers -- We're all trying to take the edge off
Deathwishers -- But we're just making the blade dull
Deathwishers -- And we're just letting the blade fall
And dragging it back and forth all night 'til we draw blood
That was the worst thing that I've ever done
I ended up outside my body and I tried to run
But my legs wouldn't work and my eyes wouldn't shut
I just stood there screaming at us both to get up
It was the scariest thing I've ever seen
I slapped myself as hard as I could hoping it was a dream
But I couldn't shake the vision
Of you shaking on the side of the street
And tonight has been the night
We barely made it out alive
And I know I should feel lucky
But I can't remember why
Deathwishers -- We're all trying to take the edge off
Deathwishers -- But we're just making the blade dull
Deathwishers -- And we're just letting the blade fall
And dragging it back and forth all night 'til we draw blood
